He was baptized and confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers, Minnesota. Curtis graduated from Storden-Jeffers High School in 1993. He attended Mankato State University and graduated with honors in 1997.

Curtis worked at CCA-Prairie’s Correctional Facility as a chief security officer. He then worked in the oil fields in North Dakota and Colorado before spending the last ten years working for Schwartz Farms, Inc. He enjoyed trying his luck at casinos, going to sporting events, and collecting sports memorabilia. Being outdoors hunting and fishing were his favorite hobbies, and he had a reputation for making delicious cheesecakes. What he loved most of all, however, was spending time with his family and friends. Curtis loved his family and cherished his friends and he will be missed beyond measure.
