ehrenberg publishing, inc. dba
In 1975, brothers Loren and Curtis Johnson acquired the weekly newspaper and custom printing shop. Following Curtis’s retirement in 1995, Loren's spouse, Dianne, joined him as a co- owner. Loren, a graduate in print/letterpress from Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis in 1957, brought extensive experience in commercial printing to the enterprise. While stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, during his service with the U. S. Armed Forces, he held the position of head of a government printing department, where he operated a rolling press – a mobile printing unit that enabled him to produce topographical maps in the field. In 1962, Loren and Dianne purchased their first newspaper, the Argyle Banner, in Argyle, Minnesota. They returned to Appleton in 1975 with the acquisition of The Appleton Press to raise their children: Allan, Craig, and Leslie. Dianne actively contributed to their newspaper business as a writer.
Leslie Ehrenberg, the daughter of Loren and Dianne, assumed ownership of The Press in 2002 after dedicating 20 years to the family business. Together with her husband, Steve, they are the parents of three children: Timothy, David, and Melissa. They reside on their farm home located just north of Appleton. In 2007, their son Tim joined the business after graduating from South Central College in Mankato, where he was appointed print production manager. He has played a crucial role in expanding the company's print production division.
Tim's wife, April, became part of the Ehrenberg Publishing team in 2008, taking on the role of graphic designer. Tim and April have collaboratively developed a comprehensive range of services, including design, prepress, printing, finishing, and delivery.
April has been actively engaged with the newspaper since starting her career here in September 2008. She is the editor and has occupied various roles, including bookkeeper, advertising manager, and graphic designer. Her contributions to pagination, photography, and writing for the newspaper have been invaluable, including her pivotal role in creating and implementing the newspaper's e-Edition and managing our Facebook page and Instagram account.
April and Tim reside in Appleton and have three sons: Damon and his wife Katelynn, who live in Olivia; Adam, a sixth grader at Lac qui Parle Valley Middle School; and Erik, a first grader at Appleton-Milan Elementary School. They are also proud grandparents to one granddaughter, Lyla.
